Income Inequality is on the rise and is pervasive between Black and white Americans. Right now the wealth of a typical Black family is around one-tenth that of a white family. The Souls of Poor Folk audit by the Poor People’s Campaign highlights the relationships between systemic racism, persistent poverty, the war economy and ecological devastation. Shailly Gupta Barnes, Policy Director at the Kairos Center & Poor People’s Campaign says the PPC is calling for a “Third Reconstruction” measure to set poverty eradication as a top U.S. goal.
